What's the Deal with March Meet the Maker?

What's the Deal with March Meet the Maker?

Have you seen an increase in our social media presence recently? Well that’s because we are taking part in a social media challenge called March Meet the Maker. It’s like a month long showcase for handmade businesses, where you get to flaunt your talents, support other creators, and show off your amazing work.

Where has it come from?

Running a handmade business can very easily lead to creative burnout. Which is exactly what happened to the amazing artist Joanne Hawker in 2016. Not able to find a ready made social media challenge to suit her business, she devised one herself and encouraged her business buddies to join in. It worked really well and she is now the leader of this global awareness month for makers.

So what do you do?

Think of it as a daily prompt that gives you a chance to share a little piece of your creative world with the rest of the internet. Whether you're a jewelry maker, a candle crafter, or a knitting wizard, this challenge is the perfect opportunity to connect with like-minded individuals, gain exposure for your business, and have a ton of fun in the process.

Why is it important to you?

It’s a great way for us to show off our personality, share behind-the-scenes peeks, and engage with other participants. This challenge is all about building a supportive community and spreading the love for handmade goods.

Each daily prompt pushes you to think outside the box, try new things, and push your boundaries. It helps show the world the realities and challenges of running a handmade business and potential customers get to see what actually goes into making an item.

How can non makers support this challenge?

Oh don’t you worry, there is a challenge in it for you too!

  1. Head to your preferred social media platform and search for the hashtag MarchMeetTheMaker
  2. Scroll through and take a look at some posts that jump out. Might be some crazy dancing, might be a post showing how an item is made.
  3. Like at least 5 posts from different makers throughout March
  4. For those posts you really love, share them with your friends and family. This could just be sending links via e-mail to your Auntie Maud in Scotland!
  5. We guarantee that you will fall in love some of things you find. So why not buy something? Could just be a card for an up coming birthday. Maybe a some pins and stickers to hide away for stocking fillers. It might even be a super cute piece of jewellery to send to your bestie to let them know they are awesome

We’d love to know what you find on your travels through social media so do share them with us!

See you soon
